Finally, we headed north to the Anaga forest roads. This region is a stark contrast to the dry south. The roads are often damp, twisty, and prone to sudden patches of mist. The predictable brakes gave us confidence when the fog rolled in thick and we had to reduce our speed drastically. The steering, while perfectly weighted for parking and low-speed maneuvers, lacks the feedback needed to truly enjoy a spirited drive through the mountains. You will not feel every nuance of the road surface. Additionally, while the 1.5 litre engine handles the hills well with two people on board, a fully loaded car with five adults and heavy luggage will require a heavy right foot. This makes the engine sound rather strained at high revolutions when tackling the steepest inclines.

In terms of luggage, the boot is generous for a car of this class. It will comfortably swallow two large suitcases and a couple of soft bags. It is perfectly suited for couples, small families, or groups of three to four friends. If you have five adults, the rear seats will feel cramped on longer journeys, and you might struggle to fit everyone’s luggage in the back.
