Tips for Driving in Fuerteventura
Main roads FV-1 and FV-2
The FV-1 links Corralejo with Puerto del Rosario (24 km), and the FV-2 runs south past the airport, Caleta de Fuste and Costa Calma to Morro Jable (92 km). Some sections are four-lane highways, but long stretches in between have one lane each way. All roads on the island are toll-free.
Sand on the FV-104 through the dunes
The FV-104, the old FV-1, runs about 11 km through Corralejo Dunes Natural Park along the Grandes Playas, while through traffic uses the FV-1 inland. Wind blows sand from the dunes onto the road every day, and in strong wind it can cover a lane, so slow down.
Parking in the Corralejo dunes
Inside Corralejo Dunes Natural Park, you may drive only on the road and park only in the marked areas; cars are not allowed on the sand. There are only about 300 marked spaces along the FV-104, so come early on sunny days.
Dirt road to Cofete and Punta de Jandía
West of Morro Jable the asphalt ends, and a dirt road runs into Jandía Natural Park to the Punta de Jandía lighthouse, Puertito de la Cruz and Cofete. The speed limit on the park's tracks is 30 km/h, and driving off the marked track is not allowed.

At Cofete, leave the car in the parking area by the beach; cars may not drive along the coast. If you would rather not drive the dirt road, Tiadhe bus 111 runs from Morro Jable to Cofete and Punta de Jandía.
Last gas station in Morro Jable
Morro Jable is the last place to buy fuel in the south: there are no gas stations on the Jandía peninsula west of the town. Fill the tank before you take the dirt road to Cofete or Punta de Jandía. The station at Morro Jable port is open 24 hours.
Gas stations inland and in the northwest
There are no gas stations in Betancuria, Vega de Río Palmas or the village of Pájara, nor in Lajares or El Cotillo. Fill up in Antigua, Tuineje or Costa Calma before the mountains, and in La Oliva or Corralejo before El Cotillo. Most stations close around 10 p.m.
Mountain road FV-30 through Betancuria
The FV-30 crosses the mountains of the interior for about 39 km, from Casillas del Ángel through Betancuria and Vega de Río Palmas to Pájara. It passes the Guise y Ayose and Morro Velosa viewpoints and carries a lot of visitor traffic, so expect slow cars on the bends.
FV-605 to La Pared and Ajuy
The FV-605 runs about 28 km from Pájara past the Sicasumbre viewpoint, which has a parking area, to La Pared and on to the FV-2 at Costa Calma. The FV-621 branches off to Ajuy. There are no gas stations along these roads.
Virgen de la Peña festival on the FV-30
In mid-September, the Virgen de la Peña festival in Vega de Río Palmas closes parts of the FV-30 for several hours, and many pilgrims walk along the road. Check the Cabildo's notice for the closed stretch before you drive through the mountains that weekend.
